Detailed Course Syllabus
Midsagittal & Parasagittal Acoustic Windows
Technique of aligning the probe through the anterior fontanelle or sagittal suture.
Coronal Planes of the Forebrain & Midbrain
Transfrontal, transcaudate, transthalamic, and transcerebellar coronal views.
Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum & Colpocephaly
Sunray pattern of sulci, absent CSP, parallel lateral ventricles, and teardrop morphology.
Posterior Fossa Anomalies Differential Matrix
Vermis elevation, tegmentovermian angle measurement, and fastigium morphology.
Complete agenesis of the corpus callosum with classic colpocephaly (atrial width 14mm). Cavum septi pellucidi absent. Posterior fossa and vermis normal.
Definitive complete agenesis of the corpus callosum, isolated on preliminary neurosonography.
Fetal MRI for cortical migration evaluation; amniocentesis for chromosomal microarray and whole exome sequencing.
Learning Objectives
- Delineate the corpus callosum along its entire midsagittal axis and trace the pericallosal artery using color Doppler.
- Conduct differential diagnosis of ventriculomegaly: isolated vs obstructive vs syndromic.
- Evaluate posterior fossa anomalies: Dandy-Walker malformation, vermian hypoplasia, Blake's pouch cyst, and mega cisterna magna.
- Map normal cortical sulcation development (Sylvian fissure, parieto-occipital, calcarine, and cingulate sulci).
Clinical Relevance
Central nervous system malformations carry profound neurodevelopmental consequences. Accurate neurosonography differentiates benign variations from catastrophic structural anomalies, directing fetal MRI and genomic testing.
